The Sunnyside Blue Devils (5-2) cruised to their third straight win, this time in overwhelming fashion, beating Casa Grande 55-0 Friday night.

The Blue Devils' defense controlled the tempo of the game, keeping the Cougars' offensive under lock and key.

"Our defense played well," Sunnyside coach Richard Sanchez said. "We gave our offense a short field for the first time all season."

Sunnyside's defense allowed the Cougars' offense just 5 total yards.

"We set the tone on defense, and allowed the offense to get going," said Sunnyside defensive back Malik Parra.

The Blue Devils' offense scored five touchdowns in the first half.

Keeping Casa Grande's offense off the field allowed running back Manny Aguilar to take over. He scored five touchdowns, a personal record, and ran for 131 yards.

"It feels great," Aguilar said after the game.

"I had to keep on going, keep on, keep on."

Casa Grande was haunted by turnovers, which led to three Sunnyside scores.

An interception by Parra gave the Blue Devils a 14-0 lead toward the end of the first quarter.

Sunnyside was able to build on that lead, adding 21 more before halftime.

The Blue Devils celebrated their homecoming by adding two touchdowns in the third to seal the victory.

Sanchez said he hopes this win gives his team momentum going into region play next week against Mountain View.

"Our kids have been playing better. That's a key going into the region games," said Sanchez.
